Industry figures
Published by CSMarketCap, which estimates the market cap: the number of items in circulation times their price. Veriloot doesn’t measure market cap, and we haven’t audited CSMarketCap’s method. Amounts are in dollars, as at the source. Market caps don’t compare from one tracker to another: only changes within the same series mean anything.

Estimated CS2 market cap according to CSMarketCap: $8.71 billion on 17 Mar 2026, the high of its series, then $5.81 billion on 29 Sept 2026.

Our measurements
Read from Veriloot’s database, read-only, on 30 Sept 2026 (Steam Market and marketplace floor prices) and on 1 Oct 2026 (catalogue). Steam Market prices are in euros, Steam and game fees included, paid in Steam Wallet funds. We always compare the same item at two dates, never two different items.
≈ −20%
Median change in sale price, item by item, on the Steam Market, from the April high to early September 2026. 8 items in 10 now sell for less (80.2%).
- Sample
- 12,031 items sold at least 3 times in each of the two weeks compared.
- Period
- Week of 13 Apr 2026 → week of 7 Sept 2026.
- Method
- Each item’s average price over the week, weighted by number of sales, then the median of the changes. On unrounded prices: −19.3%.
39 of 39
Every case we track sells for less on the Steam Market than at the April high. Median change: −23.2%.
- Sample
- 39 cases sold at least 3 times in each of the two weeks.
- Period
- Week of 13 Apr 2026 → week of 7 Sept 2026.
- Method
- Same direct comparison, item by item. A case is an item whose name ends in “Case”.
−51.5%
Over a year, the median knife lost 51.5% of its Steam Market sale price and the median pair of gloves 55.8%. Over the same year, the median Covert weapon gained 46.8%, and half of all items went up (53.2%).
- Knives−51.5%
- Gloves−55.8%
- Covert weapons+46.8%
- Sample
- 768 knives, 179 pairs of gloves, 504 Covert weapons, 10,885 items in total, sold at least 3 times in each of the two weeks.
- Period
- Week of 8 Sept 2025 → week of 7 Sept 2026.
- Method
- Direct comparison, median change per category. Across all items, the median is +3.8% on unrounded prices.
38.3 million
Sales on the Steam Market in August 2026, 42.1% fewer than in April 2026 (66.1 million). It’s the quietest month since December 2019 in our data, by a small margin: September 2020 was only 1.4% higher. October 2025, the month of the trade-up update, is still the record for value traded in our data: €264.8 million, at Steam Market prices.

- Items in Veriloot’s catalogue sold on the Steam Market (18,075 in August 2026), not the whole Steam Market.
- Period
- Calendar months, September 2025 to August 2026. September 2026 is incomplete and isn’t counted.
- Method
- Sum of the daily sales Steam publishes for each item. Days counted twice could only inflate recent months: the drop would then be understated, not overstated.
−35 to −42%
The largest market-wide drop in our history: 2014-2016, between −35 and −42% depending on the method. Then 2021: −27.3%, and 2023-2024: about a third (−31.7%). The 2026 drop, about −20%, is not the deepest for the market as a whole. For gloves, it is: the worst in our history. Knives are at about half their April 2023 price, a drop comparable to 2014-2016.
- Sample
- For the index, items sold at least 10 times in each of the two months compared, keys excluded.
- Period
- Monthly Steam Market history, 2014 to August 2026.
- Method
- Monthly sale-price index, month over month, checked with a direct comparison between the high and the low. The two methods give the 2014-2016 range. Long-run levels aren’t quoted: over twelve years, chaining the comparisons drifts.
−9.9 to −13.2%
Median drop in floor price (the cheapest listing) on four third-party marketplaces: CSFloat −12.0%, DMarket −9.9%, Waxpeer −12.4%, White.Market −13.2%. Without the filter described below, the range is −8.8 to −12.2%.
- Sample
- 16,216 items on CSFloat, 10,944 on DMarket, 13,073 on Waxpeer, 14,899 on White.Market.
- Period
- 13 Jul 2026 to 25 Sept 2026.
- Method
- Each item’s daily floor price, in the marketplace’s own currency, with no conversion. Items at one currency unit or more. A listing price is not a sale: it doesn’t compare with Steam sale prices.

Items with at least one price read in the last 24 hours, 32,318 of them on at least two marketplaces. The catalogue holds 45,393.

- Period
- The 24 hours before 1 October 2026 at 09:28 (Paris time).
- Method
- Database read, read-only: quotes with a valid status and a price above zero. A priced item isn’t always shown: consistency checks can exclude a quote.
17.3%
Median gap between the cheapest and the most expensive listing of the same skin, across the marketplaces we compare. Ongoing measurement, recalculated at most once an hour.
- Sample
- 5,174 skins listed on at least 4 marketplaces.

- Same rows and safeguards as the price gap ranking. Full method and limits: Price gap index.
What these numbers don’t tell you
- Steam after 13 Sept 2026: our broad Steam Market collection stopped in mid-September. Steam measurements end with the week of 7 Sept 2026.
- Items above the Steam Market price cap (about €1,800) don’t sell there: the most expensive knives and gloves are missing from Steam measurements.
- Market cap isn’t measured by Veriloot. The billion-dollar amounts come from CSMarketCap.
- Several Valve decisions fall within this period. Our data says when and how much, not why.
- From April to August 2026, the euro lost 1.0% against the dollar (ECB monthly rates: 1.1706 then 1.1593). The 2026 drop is therefore not a currency effect.
- Stickers: we have too little usable Steam history. No figure is drawn from it here.
