What is float in CS2? Wear values explained
Float: Float is a number between 0 and 1 that measures how worn a skin is. It’s rolled at random when the weapon is obtained, never changes afterwards, and gives the skin its wear name: Factory New, Minimal Wear, Field-Tested, Well-Worn or Battle-Scarred.
The five wears and their float ranges
Valve publishes these ranges: Factory New 0 to 0.07, Minimal Wear 0.07 to 0.15, Field-Tested 0.15 to 0.37, Well-Worn 0.37 to 0.44, Battle-Scarred 0.44 to 1.
The items on sale tell a different story at the last two cut-offs. We checked 200 CSFloat listings around those two cut-offs on 10/09/2026, with no exceptions: Field-Tested up to 0.379, Well-Worn from 0.381; Well-Worn up to 0.449, Battle-Scarred from 0.451. The switch happens at 0.38 and 0.45. That’s what we use, because it’s the name the item actually carries.
Every skin has its own limits
Each finish sets its own float range, and the value is rolled inside it. A skin whose range starts above 0.07 has no Factory New version, and the first example below is one of them. The tables read these limits from our catalogue.
Float doesn’t wear down
Playing with a weapon doesn’t change its float. Two copies with the same wear still have different floats, and we record prices per wear, not per float. Check the float on the listing before you buy.
Three skins, their float windows and their prices
For each wear, the float range this skin can actually have (the wear’s range cut down to the skin’s own limits) and the lowest recorded price for the copy that is neither StatTrak™ nor Souvenir.
